Legal Issues in Advertising

On Sept. 27th, we discussed social media advertising, clearance issues, UGC challenges, and copyrights and music law in advertising. We learned when launching a social campaign to anticipate a range of consumer reactions. 

A few key takeaways:

  • Be sensitive to social and political issues
  • Determine all the ways your company plans to use your content
  • Have appropriate protections and response mechanisms in place before you begin
  • Take advantage of the federal laws that were enacted to protect you
  • Monitor content and refuse to post content that violates your terms and conditions
  • Copyright protects expression, not ideas
