Social Media Breakfast 2014

On Thursday September 4th, we got to hear about the evolving nature of Social Media from experts in the field. Kim Celestre from Forrester Research discussed creating utility marketing to reach the "always addressable consumer." Stacy Martinet from Mashable touched on the importance of being picky when choosing which platforms to market your product across. Tom Pettus from Deutsch highlighted the ever-growing trend of User Generated Content and it's influence throughout a variety of campaigns. Guests also heard from a great panel of specialists including Katie Lavin of 20th Century Fox, Derek Baynham of tinyREBELLION, and Eric Holden of EIF who covered the basics of how to take a human approach to social media marketing.

On August 21st, we threw a backyard bash featuring dinner, dancing and cocktails to celebrate the end of summer. The evening was spent playing backyard games such as bocce ball, corn-hole toss, and Jenga on the lawn at the Bel Air Bay Club.

On July 22, ThinkLA welcomed Dietmar Dahmen, Chief Innovation Officer, ecx.io, who discussed how change is happening all around us at a much faster pace than we could ever imagine. “We don’t like new ideas because we have to relearn concepts and unlearn the bad ones, but in order to improve your brand's survival, you must adapt," said Dietmar. As Google Glass, Glyph, Necomimi and other futuristic gadgets and trends emerge, it is important for marketers to:

1. Re-adjust their approach to these advancements by asking, "what could others do to destabilize your business?" Then find a solution.
2. Discover what consumers expect and what they do not expect, to make your brand memorable. Make the message individualized.
3. Track what people are doing and customize their narcissistic reality with speedy results.
4. Understand that if you need to explain something, the idea won't work. Ensure that your customers have easy and convenient information they can understand.

On July 17, 2014, over 500+ guests attended our 2014 Entertainment Marketing Breakfast at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel to discuss marketing trends in the millennial age. Here are three takeaways from our speakers:
  1. Millennials reach millennials. This generation is eager to share knowledge with their friends and go beyond the ordinary means of seeking information- they want an authentic and personalized message that they can depend on. – George Strompolos, Fullscreen
  2. Advertising is not the problem, bad advertising is. Millennials like to access information from their peers, trusted friends and close network. With constant overflow of advertising, they filter the most useful and practical advice for their everyday lives. "If you want to shape the future, then talk to it". – Kent Rees, Pivot TV
  3. The "Barney Affect" effect not only symbolizes a popular purple dinosaur show that most millennials grew up watching, but how those values of equality and justice still hold true for them today. Companies and brands should mirror their social responsibility in order to attract this generation to their products. Dodgeball Tournament 2014

On May 21st, 19 advertising company teams went head-to-head in our Dodgeball Tournament benefitting the MAT Program at the LA Galaxy Soccer Center in Torrance. There was a lot of dodging, ducking, dipping, diving… and dodging going on. In the end, the company that took the championship trophy home was Stoddard and Partners. Blitz took home the trophy for best team spirit. Congratulations to everyone for dodging like pros, and having fun out there!
