Rich Sobel

SVP, Programs & Services
Publicis Media, Data, Technology & Innovation

Rich Sobel is a programmatic pioneer who has been driving change within the industry from the agency, publisher and platform sides of the business for the past six years. As SVP of Programs & Services for Publicis Media with the Data, Technology & Innovation practice – a centralized hub that helps scale Publicis Groupe’s programmatic, data/tech infrastructure and paid media operations – he is responsible for developing solutions that help clients reach their individual marketing objectives. He evaluates, manages and evolves new capabilities in technology, inventory, data platforms and also works closely with key partners to develop and commercialize those offerings. Included in that purview is the analysis and verification of data, technology & inventory platform partners, expansion of programmatic capabilities for linear and analog channels, and growing the portfolio of programmatic product offerings.

Sobel joined the Publicis Groupe as the SVP, Solutions for VivaKi, leading the product offerings for programmatic capabilities supporting all media buying teams across the Groupe agencies. Prior to joining VivaKi, Sobel was Senior Director of Account Management and Platform Strategy at PubMatic, where he spearheaded the development of a successful consulting practice that provided publishers with the tools and knowledge to build out unique programmatic solutions and strategies. Greatly contributing to Latin America’s entrance into the programmatic space, he helped several of the top Brazilian publishers build out programmatic strategies. Sobel also drove successful implementations of what is now known as header tag buying in 2012.

Before his time at PubMatic, Sobel worked in various capacities at Time Inc – both on the business side and across talent and knowledge management. During his time there, he helped develop the early foundations for the industry’s private marketplace functionality and strategy. He also helped grow audience sales and programmatic revenue by 45% year-over-year by centralizing revenue management and using the burgeoning programmatic technology in 2010. Through his advanced understanding of enterprise technology and systems such as Oracle, PeopleSoft and SAP, he conducted various business improvement projects that led to $5MM in hard cost-savings and $7MM in efficiencies.

Sobel began his career in human resource information systems, working at Kaplan, Inc, Walt Disney Internet Group and Deutsche Bank. He was also an investigator for the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, an agency dedicated to civil rights law enforcement, outreach and training.

Sobel received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American Literature from Brandeis University.
